In both art installations and live performances it’s often needed to make “something” happen when “something else” happens.
The audience enters a room, steps on a stair, lifts a glass, pours water into a bowl, shouts out loud… the possibilities for triggering are just about endless.
All these actions can be made to trigger that something happens like starting a video snippet, playing a sound, turning the light off.
The possibilities are only limited by the imagination.

It has been increasingly popular to arrange soundwalks and sound guided performances in both urban areas, nature and as promotional tours in companies.
There are several ways to achieve a great experience, but it’s important to figure out which way works the best in each case.

Boxes, boxes, boxes
When building electronics for installations and performances they need to be able to withstand some tough handling and constant usage for weeks, months or even years.
I always build electronics safely into boxes with standard connectors like XLR, jack, DC plugs and even an occasional midi plug 🙂
I always make sure that the electronics can handle the environments they need to operate in, that being a very warm enclosure, a forest in the rain or the humid environment of a water installation.
